Maximizing Space in Your Trailer
A trailer provides an excellent way to expand your overall hauling capacity. However, there’s still a limit as to how much you can carry. You won’t have unlimited space and each item you load onto your trailer will add a little extra weight. That’s why you’ll need to follow the right loading strategies to help you maximize space in your trailer.
True Value Trailers & Power Equipment has provided some tips to help you with this. Keep reading to learn more, then visit our dealership in Penrose and Florence, Colorado, to check out our selection of trailers for sale.
Consult Your Owner’s Manual
One of the best ways to make the maximum use of the available space is to check your owner’s manual. Go through it to see what it says about how to load up your particular make and model of trailer. There may be tips that could make the process easier for you, thus saving you time and energy.
Stack Vertically
If your cargo is suitable for stacking, you can organize the cargo pallets vertically to save some space and load more items. Trailers are limited by their width and height space so it’s important to make sure that the pallets can easily fit. For example, if pallets are stackable but are higher than 48 inches, it won’t be possible to stack them due to the trailer height limits. We’d recommend using standard size pallets, as then it will be possible to fit one on top of the other to maximize trailer space.
Use the Correct Trailer Weight Distribution Strategies
Try to put 60% of the cargo weight in the front half of your trailer. This is the half that is nearest to your tow vehicle. The heaviest items should also go in the front half. As you load up items, try to keep the weight distribution even from left to right. This will place equal pressure on the tires, which gives you more control as you drive. It's also important to secure your cargo. When items shift around too much, they could end up getting damaged or causing damage to other items.
